Mindsets

In doing research for JUMP Math, I’ve learned about the concepts of a growth and a fixed mindset as posed by Carol Dweck. A growth mindset is one that is open to learning new things and a fixed mindset is one that’s closed off to learning.

These concepts are central to the work of JUMP Math as JUMP effectively aims to develop growth mindsets in every child. The JUMP program aims to show children that they are capable of learning maths.

This has made me think a bit more about this internship program. All the students involved in the SSIM program have growth mindsets. We are all open to learning new things and developing skills in working in social enterprise. How different would it be if we had fixed mindsets and didn’t attempt to learn more about social enterprise. I doubt we’d enjoy it anywhere near as much as we are.

I’ve had strange weather this week. Most days it’s been pretty nice in the morning but had started pouring in the afternoon. God, I love Scottish weather!
